Disney x Dali: “Destino”
A collaboration between these two titans, which began in 1946, was completed in 1999, some 50 years later, by Disney’s nephew Roy Edward Disney, using the original storyboards as well as notes taken from the journals kept by Dali’s widow.
Disney and Dali’s original work — a mere 18 seconds of test footage — can be seen starting around 5:17.
As evinced by the copyright notice at the start of the short, this incredible slice of history may not be with us for much longer, so dawdle at your own risk.
This shit is ridiculously beautiful.
The 2009 SXSW Music Keynote speech from Quincy Jones contained many unforgettable moments. Among them was a series of stories about his work and friendship with Michael Jackson. After meeting on the set of “The Wiz,” Jackson convinced Jones to produce his next record, and went against label advice to pursue this collaboration. What ensued was history, and ‘Q’ shares his unique perspective on the blockbuster of ‘Thriller’ and the breaking of racial barriers at MTV. As we remember Michael Jackson’s music and note his deep and wide cultural impact, we thank Quincy Jones for sharing his remarkable life stories at SXSW ‘09.
Quincy Jones is the one person I have been waiting to hear from about Michael Jackson. The vid was taken before Michael passed but it gives you a good understanding of how truly special Michael was as a person and as a musician.
