Once upon a time not long ago, I moved to Mississippi and signed up for a shitload of classes.

Yes, I made it out here and it’s about as slow and humid as watching Gone with the Wind in a sauna. The people here are very courteous though. Almost everyone you walk past wishes you a blessed day. And even though this region is one of the poorest I’ve ever lived in, everyone has a smile on their face. The general energy I feel in Mississippi is a genuinely content one. An energy that I predict will be contageous.

I know that my stay here will be a life-changing experience for me. Coming from one of the most modern and socially advanced states in the US, to the slowest and possibly most behind. This could be seen as a torturous setback but I feel that I have so much to offer out here that it’s hard for me to look at it like that. I truly can’t wait to bring everything that I have learned in CA out here to MS.

I signed up for classes this morning, a process that I have gone through many times before. The difference between this and every other time I have signed up for school is the feeling I have going into this. Every other time I signed up for school there was no real feeling of excitement or even nervousness. It was just another year signing up. This time around I have a feeling. I described it best to my doog friend D. Scott earlier via aim: I have that feeling I would imagine one would have as they were staring at a 12 story tidle wave about to sweep them away that frightened but too much in awe of the monstrous beauty that stand before you kind of feeling.

I came all this way to be band geek….I’m cool with that.

I guess what I’m trying to say is I’m nervous as fuck but equally as excited to be swept away in this new experience. I’m going to do my best to journal all of this for those back home who care enough to read. I’ll still be posting other shit too that might be a little more exciting to read about.

Here’s to the journey.

P.s. - This picture isn’t for an added cheesey halmark touch. This is a picture of the road that I will be taking to school everyday. Yeah…it’s like that.

Versis showed up in my friend requests a number of months ago. Since then I have kept up with his music and have yet to be let down. He’s been releasing a steady number of singles that have kept me in anticpation for a whole project. I’m glad to say I can anticipate no longer.

The Synergy EP is a 21-minute joyride that stays true to it’s name. It is an excellent display of what two talented artists, whose talent and ability is strong enough to carry themselves individually, can achieve when they combine forces to make something even greater than their indiviudal efforts; Synergy.

Looking back now, synergy has been the winning formula for any memorable hip hop duo: Eric B. & Rakim, EPMD, Gangstarr, Blu & Exile, Reflection Eternal, etc. A formula that often makes albums into classics.

Versis’ smokey, Buckshot-esque voice and old school delivery serves a good contrast to Lucid’s fresh and full-sounding production that would have any Little Brother fan searching for the instrumentals. Neither member outshines the other at any one point during the EP. Versis is definitely the focal point but he doesn’t let his producer go unnoticed. With Lucid’s instrumental teasers and the track featuring Lucid himself, it feels like a cooperative effort as opposed to the “Here’s the CD of beats, hit me up when you record the songs” type of feel.

All in all, The Synergy EP is an excellent listen for anyone who is in search of the new Golden Era (or shall we say, Platinum Era) of hip hop. The more I hear from Versis, the more I can’t wait to see him do bigger things. I only support good music, you should do the same.

P.s. - Why is it so hard for fools to handle a camera correctly? Especially during such crucial moments! Hella irritating.

Disney x Dali: “Destino”

A collaboration between these two titans, which began in 1946, was completed in 1999, some 50 years later, by Disney’s nephew Roy Edward Disney, using the original storyboards as well as notes taken from the journals kept by Dali’s widow.

Disney and Dali’s original work — a mere 18 seconds of test footage — can be seen starting around 5:17.

As evinced by the copyright notice at the start of the short, this incredible slice of history may not be with us for much longer, so dawdle at your own risk.
